Overview
The Mission
The mission of the Sr. Java Developer is to provide comprehensive technical leadership and hands-on application development for the company’s secure, enterprise-level software systems. As a Senior Java Developer, you will drive technical leadership and hands-on application development for our secure, enterprise-level software systems. You’ll serve as a key technical authority and execution lead—bridging high-level architecture with daily engineering. This role is based out of one of our two primary hubs, located just 10–15 minutes from either El Segundo, CA or Seal Beach, CA.
We are explicitly seeking an operationally driven software leader who manages from the front lines—someone who views active coding and system architecture as their primary command center. Stepping into this position, you will lead complex application features, oversee daily development workflows, mentor team members, and build scalable REST and SOAP services within cloud environments. By combining deep mastery of Java frameworks with a project-focused approach, you will support strategic business goals and drive continuous improvement across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Scope of Impact
Software Development & System Architecture
- Hands-On Application Delivery: Direct and perform hands-on Java development, code optimization, and system-level software enhancements across complex enterprise platforms.
- Architecture & Standards: Author and review tailored software designs, technical documentation, REST/SOAP web services, and comprehensive unit and integration test suites.
- Environment Management: Oversee application development infrastructure across local and cloud environments, including build tools, version control, and database maintenance.
Technical Leadership & Project Execution
- Team Enablement: Coach and build technical capabilities across cross-functional engineering teams, maintaining high workflow efficiency and project accountability.
- Project Execution: Drive sprint execution, schedule adherence, resource allocation, and technical risk mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery in an Agile environment.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with cross-functional project teams, DevOps, QA personnel, and executive stakeholders across both locations.
Technical Innovation & Client Support
- Technical Interface: Serve as a primary technical SME for internal and external stakeholders, clarifying complex software behaviors and delivering technical updates.
- Capability Growth: Drive technical improvements and identify opportunities for tool automated testing, CI/CD integration, and high-performance cloud solutions.

- Hands-On Development Leader: A proven developer who believes authentic leadership comes from deep technical involvement. You remain active in writing code, conducting peer reviews, and stepping into the IDE alongside your team.
- Framework Mastery: Deep, practical familiarity with core Java frameworks and enterprise design patterns, with an explicit focus on the Spring Framework, Hibernate, and web service architecture.
- Agile & Quality Centered: A natural mentor who utilizes structured Agile/Scrum practices to build team technical competency and maintain an organized engineering workflow across sites.
- Strategic Partner: A technical professional capable of balancing tight software accuracy with project deadlines, clearance constraints, and multi-site operational efficiency.
License and Experience Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- Clearance: Active Top Secret / SCI clearance required.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- Location & Proximity: Must be based within commuting distance (10–15 minutes) of either the El Segundo, CA area or the Seal Beach, CA area, OR willing to relocate immediately at your own expense.
- Development Experience: 8+ years of direct, hands-on professional software development experience in Java.
- Frameworks & Services: Proven experience with the Spring Framework and hands-on experience developing REST and/or SOAP web services.
- Technical Documentation: Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and delivering clear software designs, API documentation, and unit tests.
Preferred Background & Technical Experience
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Exposure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) or modern cloud-based environments.
- Containerization & Tools: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Database & Persistence: Practical experience with Hibernate, modern ORMs, and databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or MongoDB.
- Agile Ecosystem: Strong familiarity with Jira, Atlassian tools, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
Environmental & Physical Requirements
This position operates within both standard office environments and active, secure software facilities across our locations. Candidates must be able to collaborate in secure workspace environments, review complex codebases on multi-monitor setups, and manage local build environments effectively. Periodic travel between the El Segundo and Seal Beach facilities, as well as off-site project meetings, may be required.
